Use leg length, stack count, and clamp pressure as a system — not isolated knobs — when you move between pine, MDF wrap, and narrow aluminium sections.
V-nail leg length should penetrate the moulding stack to roughly 60–70% of the narrowest rail depth without punching through the show face. Wider profiles accept longer legs; thin aluminium or PS sections need shorter legs and lower stack height to avoid visible exit marks.
Pneumatic underpinners (NN300, NN400, NN500) rely on consistent air supply and dwell time. Hard maple and oak need higher clamp force but shorter dwell to prevent crushing; MDF and finger-joint pine tolerate longer dwell at moderate pressure. Log a recipe card per SKU: leg size, stacks, PSI band, dwell ms.
After any nail or profile change, run five scrap corners and check: gap at show face, nail exit on the back rail, and squareness against a reference plate. CNC joiners (NN600/NN700) add programmable stack sequences — mirror the same leg-length rules but validate in the controller recipe, not only on the bench.
